Stating that a number of party candidates have been getting constant threats from some underground organisations, Janata Dal (United) State Unit president M Tombi has said that the State Government must be held responsible if any untoward incident happens to any of their candidates.
Speaking to reporters, M Tombi said that JD (U) candidate T Ami of 2-Khoibu of Chandel district has been getting constant threats from an underground organisation.
The candidate had been even asked to withdraw his nomination papers for the ADC election, Tombi said.
Saying that he had talked to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam regarding the matter, Tombi said that the Deputy Chief Minister had assured him to provide all necessary help and protection to the candidate.
Informing the media that T Ami has now put his phone in switch off mode, Tombi said that the State Government must be held responsible if any untoward incident happens with his party candidate.
One of his party candidates was also forced to withdraw his nomination paper by an organisation, he said and added the incident is highly condemnable.
Some candidates are using muscle and gun powers to win the ADC elections, he added.
Urging the authority concerned to conduct the upcoming ADC elections in a free and fair manner, Tombi said that resorting to any type of force to win the election would not be right or desirable.
