Imphal, June 19 2021:
Manipur Council & State Faculty of Ayurvedic Medicine has said that the state's AYUSH drug licensing authority and directorate of AYUSH have been overlooking and undermining the plea for validation and necessary examination of 'Melrel 1 & Meirel 2' antiviral medicine (traditional antiviral medicine) for treatment of COVID-19 and Mahiren (immune booster food supplement) for prevention of antiviral infections including COVID-19 .
After repeated attempts under the direction and guidelines of Manipur Ayurvedic Sammelan (MAS), the Council including its wing Bone & Body Research Centre (BBRC) met speaker Y Khemchand Singh and urged him for approval of 'Melrel 1 & Meirel 2' and Mahiren.
The speaker immediately forwarded the same to director (AYUSH) Y Lukhol Singh for necessary action.
Accordingly, a team of doctors visited the premises of BBRC on January 18 this year and an understanding was reached for a joint venture with directorate of AYUSH, Manipur.
The team also met a patient who was treated with 'Melrel 1 & Meirel 2' and got cured of COVID-19 infection which otherwise was critical and under ventilator support.
The team was also scrutinised reports of other Covid-19 patients treated with 'Melrel 1 & Meirel 2' with similar success.
The team also took note of the immune booster supplement 'MAHIREN' which has been taken by more than 500 individuals in the first wave of COVID-19 of which none got infected till date thereby underscoring 100 percent success rate and effectiveness.
However, reply from State AYUSH Drugs Licensing Authority, Directorate of AYUSH, Lamphelpat on January 29 mentioned only quotations from the Drugs & Cosmetic Acts 1940 & Rules 1945 and nothing about the joint venture and further proceedings as agreed upon.
This indeed has proven that Directorate of AYUSH, Manipur undermined and overlooked plea and request for support, the Council said and maintained that it will continue to supply 'Meirel 1 & Melrel 2' and 'MAHIREN' to all its members, sympathizers & patients for welfare of all.
The Council urged Government of Manipur, departments and authorities concerned including the directorate of AYUSH for support and take proactive and heroic steps for validation of indigenous antiviral medicine to fight the pandemic and help the Council in saving humanity at large.
