Imphal, September 19 2013:
While expressing its gratitude to the Prime Minister for the care shown in sending a letter of the steps taken by the Prime Minister's Office and asking the Union Home Secretary on 4th September, 2013 to take up appropriate action in connection with the demands made by it over the issue of border fencing, Chanura Marup of Manipur People's Party, however, has reminded the Prime Minister that it would be unacceptable to the people of Manipur to lose their land any more.
"We have lost Kabow valley in 1953 and Namphalong in 1970s; because the government of India's only interest is to please the Myanmar government, even at the cost of Manipur.
The recent case of government of India's direction to Manipur Congress leaders to restrain themselves from visiting the border area is a case in point.
Interestingly no Congressmen of Manipur could raise a finger against the directive of the government," Chandrakala Devi, President in-charge of Chanura Marup stated in a release.
Chanura Marup strongly urge the Prime Minister to finalise the boundary demarcation first and only then border fencing can be taken up accordingly to the international norms, Chandrakala added.
It also warned that giving away land in the name of border fencing to please the Myanmaresse authorities would only create an atmosphere of enmity between the Manipuris and Myanmarese that could ultimately backfire on the unity of India.
Chanura Marup would maintain a strict vigil on the work of the Home Ministry on the border fencing and it would take up action any time against the government, if the government ever attempt to set the Manipuris against the Myanmarese.
