Imphal, March 15 2014 :
The Manipur Muslim Welfare Organization (MMWO) has threatened of seeking legal action and launching series of agitation in co-operation with civil society organizations if the office term of the present Chairperson of Manipur State Minorities Commission, A Halim Chowdhury is extended for another 3 years term violating the norms of the maximum 3 years term of office Chairperson laid down in all the Bye-Laws/RRs of all the National and State Minorities Commissions so far established in the country.
In a statement, the MMWO said the tenure of the present Chairperson who has already completed 10 years in the office of Manipur State Minorities Commission seems to be the day of his last breath and appealed the State Government to appoint a new suitable person as Chairperson of the commission preferably from eminent Muslim social workers who are well-versed in issues of the Minorities and got some administrative experiences.
