Reduction of excessive naturally acid or alkaline found in the soil of various parts of the State in required, said Horticulture Development officer, A Devdatta.
The statement was made by Devdatta, in his speech as the resource person at the one-day workshop on 'Organic Farming' programme held on Sunday at State Guest House Manipur.
The programme was organized by Green Zone Imphal and Vegetable Nest, Lamjao.
Devdatta said that, some parts Manipur's valley areas are found to have 4.8 to 5.5 percent acids or alkaline in the soils and in hills areas soils it is found to have from 5 to 5.5 percent and nutrients are more available under acid conditions while others are more available under alkaline conditions which kills other useful micro organisms, enabling to grow plants and converting the soil to a death soil.
Hence reduction of excessive naturally acid or alkaline found in the soil of various parts of the State in required.
The practice of horticulture farming does not harm the soil fertility hence need to enhance the method.
Further added that the hill areas are much favorable to horticulture farming and enhancing it will be a boon to the incomes if the people in the hills of Manipur.
