Imphal, August 29 2022:
With reference to the upcoming Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to under-graduate and post graduate courses to be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) across the nation for the first time, Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has termed as unfortunate that CUET examination centre for Manipuri students registered in Manipur University for pursuing post graduate courses has been allotted outside the state.
Speaking to media persons at its Naorem Leikai Primary School office on Monday, FESOK education & library secretary N Rikesh Mangang pointed out that a total of 2,90,490 students were registered to appear in the CUET for admission in post graduate courses in Manipur University thereby making it the fifth university with the highest number of registered students for CUET.
Even students from outside the states are registered in the university.
Many of the Manipuri students who opted for Imphal Centre and registered in Manipur University have been allotted examination centres outside the states, he continued, while urging Manipur University vice chancellor and education minister to contact the NTA and make arrangements for Manipuri students who prefer Imphal as examination centre to appear the exam in the state.
Pointing out that most of the people in the state are from below poverty line families, Rikesh conveyed that FESOK has information that many poor students who wanted to pursue higher education in Manipur University will not appear the CUET examination due to financial problem as their examination centre is allotted outside the state namely Guwahati, Dispur, Dimapur, Itanagar and Aizawl among others.
As the marks for CUET will be the gateway for admission into Manipur University, numerous students of the state will not be able to admit in the university due to the problems of the examination centre, he contended.
