Imphal, May 12 2021:
Flouting guidelines issued by the government for preventing spread of COVID-19, vegetables and other edible items are being sold at various places of Imphal West district.
Sagolband Tera bazar, Sagolband Khamnam Leirak, Bijoygovinda and Lamphel court road were some places in Imphal West district where vegetables were sold in groups without any adherence to Covid guidelines.
Most of the sellers are from other districts and they grouped together at these places to ply their wares.
Apart from these places, many sellers from other places are selling vegetables at various points of several localities in Imphal West district and many people throng these places to buy vegetables without following SOPs.
The ongoing curfew gives severe impact to daily wage earners and many of them are afraid of going out from home to purchase edibles while some of them have exhausted money to buy anything.
The ongoing curfew will be meaningful if government chalks up a policy to ease life of these daily wage earners, a concerned citizen opined, while another observed that the current hardship could be minimised if government fix rate of vegetables and allow their sale by issuing permit.
