As a part of Action/2015 July campaign, various civil society groups in Manipur launched Finance Our Future Campaign and People's Currency Campaign in Chandel and Ukhrul Districts on Tuesday.
Babloo Loitongbam, Executive Director Human Rights Alerts said, "The campaign is launched to put pressure on the government on taking a decision.
It will continue in all districts of Manipur and the signatures will be sent to the Union Minister, with a request that he should personally attend the Addis Ababa meeting in Ethiopia.
This matter is especially relevant in the case of Manipur as the Central Government stripped the State of the Special Category Status, which will deprive the citizens of the State of various centrally sponsored developmental programs."He further added that Millennium Development Goals (MDG), set by the United Nations to be achieved by 2015 has failed to achieve because of the lack of accountability by the mechanism in the MDG.
Therefore the civil society across the world is mobilizing the public who are primarily stakeholders of development. The civil society mobilization team visited the Chadongpokpi Village and Pallel town of Chandel district in the Indo- Myanmar Border on July 5, 2015.With the help of village authority and NGO leaders the mobilization continued till 6 July on which they visited Chadong village of Ukhrul District .
