Imphal, October 12 2012:
The overwhelming growth of Paragrasses in and around the Keibul Lamjao National Park has posed a threat on the survival of Sangai in the Park.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, H Megha, President of Loktak Lake Environment Center informed that for the last 1-2 years, Para grasses have spread in different parts of the Park thus eliminating indigenous herbs like Loklei, Pullei, Komprek, etc which Sangai normally feed on.
It is said that LDA (Loktak Development Authority) and Veterinary Department have sown the seeds of the paragrasses to increase the production of fodder for cattle in the area.
However, it has spread rampantly over the last few decades.
