Imphal, August 29 2014 :
The lack of parking lot near B.T Road in the heart of Imphal has compelled customers to seek for other shops to buy their essential items, which in turn has adversely affected the business in the area.
In this connection, a sit-in-protest was staged by shopkeepers of B.T Road here on Thursday.
According to the protestors, due to non availability of parking space in B.T Road area, their business has suffered loss.
As such, the shopkeepers have urged the concerned authorities to provide parking place for customers.
The shopkeepers also stated that the number of buyers frequenting their shops at B.T Road has surprisingly reduced and the businessmen find it hard to earn their livelihood because of the downfall in their business.
The shopkeepers thus appealed to the government to make parking space available for at least two-wheelers if not four-wheeler so that their business transaction can return to normalcy.
The protestors then pointed out that due to availability of parking lots at Thangal Bazar, Paona Bazar and Gandhi Avenue, the business in those areas is prospering.
They added that even though around 400 shops are available at B.T Road, the non availability of space to park vehicles has hampered selling rates of the shops.
As such, the protestors have drawn the attention of the state government to allocate parking space at B.T.Road and have kind consideration for the grievances faced by the shopkeepers.
