Kambiron Railway Station to be named after Jadonang

'With the approval of the State Cabinet for naming the Railway Station to be constructed at Kombiron in Tamenglong as Haipou Jadonang station, the State Government has intimated the Ministry concerned of Government of India on the matter' .
This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikgangam during the observance of 83rd death anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang held at Jadonang Memorial Park at Keishampat here today.
Speaking on the occasion s chief guest, the Deputy Chief Minister said Haipou Jadonang was a freedom fighter who fought gallantly against the mighty British Empire and sacrificed his life for the people of Manipur.
Saying that people of hill and valley are brothers and sisters from the very beginning, Gaikhangam stressed on the need for bringing unity among various groups of people living in Manipur.
While informing that developments inside the Haipou Jadonang park beside the Keishampat Power station is underway, he said the Government has sanctioned money for erecting a statue of Jadonang at the site.
The statue will be ready before the death anniversary observance next year, he added.

Besides deciding to name the Kombiron railway station in the name of Haipou Jadonang, a Jadonang memorial hall has also been constructed at the birth place of the freedom fighter at , Gaikhangam pointed out. Citing that a number of development works including national projects are being undertaken in hill districts, he called upon the people to extend support to the development projects.
Disturbing national projects is a sign of lack of wisdom, he iterated while informing that government is planning to construct a national highway connecting Imphal, Kangchup and Tamenglong.
The observance function was also participated among others by MLA Z.Kikhonbou Newmai, MLA Janhemlung Panmei, former Minister Meijinlung Kamson and father of social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima.
People of various communities participated in the death anniversary function organized by the State Level Death Anniversary Observation Committee of Haipou Jadonang, Freedom Fighter of India.
In Tamenglong district, the observance of 83rd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was organised by Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur under the aegis of United Naga Council at Jadonang Park , Tamenglong district HQs.
Speaking on the occasion, Thomas Kamei, President of Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur recalled that Jadonang was Naga freedom fighter who was wrongly implicated to a murder case in which he was neither connected nor involved.
He was spiritually inspired to organise religious and social reforms among the kindred tribe of Zeme, Liangmei, Rongmei and Puimei.
He visualized a kingdom for his people which were described by the British as Naga Raj and prophesied that with the coming to end of British rule, Naga Raj would emerge.
The observance was also attended by representatives from United Naga Council, Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong People's Coordination Committee, Zeliangrong Youth Front, Zeliangrong Students Union, Village Chairmen, Zeliangrong Pui Baudi, Pastor and social leaders.
Apart from laying wreaths at the memorial stone, a two-minute silent prayer was observed to honour the freedom fighter.
Candles were also lit in all Zeliangrong households.
In the meantime, Zeliangrong Union, Tamenglong Zone, in a press statement, informed that thw Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu Death Anniversary Committee under the aegis of Zeliangrong Union, Tamenglong also observed the 83rd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang along with offering floral tributes to the great leader at his memorial pillar.
The floral tribute was led by SP Athui, Chairman of ZU Tamenglong zone, DM Hukhinlak, Vice President ZU (AMN).
A similar observance was also held at Noney with Zino Kamei, Vice Chairman ADC as chief guest.
Floral tributes and two-minute silent prayer were observed on the occasion.
At Puilian (Kambiron), the native village of Haipou Jadonang, the villagers observed the day along with Jadonang parade, folk songs and dance presentation.

Akham Gonmei, former president AZSU & Researcher of North Eastern Social Research Centre, Guwahati, who was present as a resource person, asserted that Zeliangrong Nagas can be proud of the great patriots Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu but are deprived of all round-development facilities.
He said that Zeliangrong people joined Manipur Kingdom, Legislative Assembly in 1947-49, Naga National Movement, Nagaland statehood Demand, Manipur statehood demand and Assam statehood solidarity but none of these factors could provide the healing touch and the Zeliangrong people remained as in ancient days.

He appealed to all the states of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland to deliver justice.
The programme included various traditional dances and performed traditional and modern songs.

The programme started with invocation prayer by James Kamei, RTO, Makuilongdi Region. In a statement, Information and Publicity Secretary of the outfit A Dangmei has also conveyed gratitude to all the Zeliangrong people for remembering Haipou Jadonang on his 83rd death anniversary by lighting candles in every household.
The Zeliangrong Students' Union, Southern Area, Manipur also observed the death anniversary of Jadonang at Gilgal English School, Loktak Project, Churachandpur district.
As part of the observance, the 2nd Jadonang Memorial Painting Competitions sponsored by the NHPC Ltd, Loktak Project was held under the theme "Mother Nature: The Given of Life and beauty of Cultural Diversity" .
On the other hand, Haopou Jadonang Day was observed for the first time in the premises of JNV Tamenglong today with M Nabamani Singh, principal of the school and Gailiang Gonmei, Vice Co-ordinator of ZSUTD attending as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Apart from paying homage to the freedom fighter, inspiring speeches from the dignitaries and presentation of patriotic songs by the students were the other highlights of the event.
