BSF apprehends arms

The BSF Intelligence Wing Aizawl, in a joint operation with Mizoram Police Special Branch (CID) at Lengtei under Sairang police station, Aizawl (Mizoram) District on August 28 apprehended 5 persons (three Indian nationals and two Bangladeshi nationals) who have been identified as Somitro Chakma, 43, s/o Mona Chakma, Langudu, Rangmati, Bangladesh; Jius , 28, s/o Mrinal Kanti Chakma, Bhagaichhari, Rangamati, Bangladesh; Joy Chakma, 31, s/o Chandran Chakma, Tuipuibari, West Phailing, Mizoram; Dipankar Chakma, 33, s/o Amit Barman Chakma, Rajiv Nagar II, Mamit, Mizoram; Puranajoy Chakma, 45, s/o Cholu Chandra Chakma, Rajivnagar II, Mamit, Mizoram in possession of weapons like M-16 Rifles series, 4000 live AK 47 rounds, 1100 live M-16 rounds, a sum of Rs 60,000 and 10 mobile phones.

BSF spokesperson Satish Chandra Budakoti, DIG, Frontier Hqs, BSF Mizoram & Cachar intimated that the smuggling of sophisticated weapons from Myanmar to India has become a matter of serious concern.
The apprehended persons came in a TATA Sumo Regt No.MZ-01-J0274 from Lengpui airport and was intercepted at Lengtei.
The arms and ammunition, thus caught, were smuggled from Myanmar and was meant for insurgent groups, a press release issued by the PRO, Hqs BSF Mizoram & Cachar.
