Dried up paddy fields caused worry among Chandel farmers

Prevailing draught like situation with no rainfall for the last few months has eventually led to drying of the paddy fields while many more fields left without transplantation in the Lamkang Tribe inhabited area in the western part of Chandel.
According to a press note issued by Lamkang Naga Kver Kunpun today, a team led by its President DB Thamdok Francis, on August 9 visited the western Lamkang areas that covered Leingangching, Komsen, Kurnuching, New Chayang, Nungkangching, P-Pantha, Keithelmanbi and Charangching villages.
The team found that most of the fields had dried up and many more fields remained without transplanting of paddy due to lack of water.
The press statement stated that the farmers of these villages were worried and expressed concern over the matter that would affect their livelihood.
The LNKK, while appealing to the department concerned to look into the matter, has appealed for necessary help in the interest of the farmers.
The statement has also informed people of the Lamkang Tribe on the new names of the seasons, months and weeks adopted for strict compliance in usage without any other version.
It stated Phalbi, Khulum, Chavaan, Kunjou, Tnou, Chuur and Thaal as the names of the seasons while, Maraannit, Dulseemni, Chitounit, Doolkhalnit, Suthatnit, Nongtutnit and Tkarngatnit as the names of the week, and Tbur, Kjou, Paampho, Ptau, Purdun, Jiingpi, Churphul, Armuul, Phurva, Morsong, Partang and Kram as the names of the months.
Meanwhile, there has been report of farmers from western valley and Chakpikarong areas suffering from the same drought like situation.
