Desperate farmers of Khangabok in Thoubal district have urged the concerned department of the state government to irrigate around 600 hectares of paddy fields and save the farmers from uncertainties due to non-availability of rain water.
Representatives of the Multi-farming and Rural Development Organisation, Popular Youth Club, and Rising Union Club, along with members of Khangabok Zilla Parishad, pradhan of Khangabok Part III Gram Panchayat, and officials of the Minor Irrigation Department have inspected the condition of the parched fields in Khangabok area.
Kh Kumari, a member of the Khangabok Zilla Parishad said that generally the transplantation of paddy in the fields is done latest by June 15 of a year.
However, there is no sign of the paddy being transplanted till now for this year.
The zilla Parishad member also appealed the concerned government department to act swiftly and bail the people out from their predicament.
The people of the area said that irrigation of water to the fields from Arong River and Lai River will be possible while saying that the concerned authority will be asked to sanction at least ten water pumps for the area.
