Handloom expo 2013-14 begins

The National Handloom Expo 2013-14 organised by the Managing Director, Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd under the sponsorship of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textile, Govt of India began today at Iboyaima Shanglen, Palace Compound.
The inaugural function of the National Handloom Expo, which is scheduled to be held till April 5, was graced by Director of Commerce and Industries, John B Tlangtinkhuma and former Additional Director of Commerce and Industries, V Tualthang as the chief guest and president respectively.
Officer-In-Charge of Weavers Service, Ministry of Textiles Sandeep P Thubrikar; former Managing Director of Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation, W Nilamani Singh and President of Handloom Promotion Council, Chingtam Luwang were the guests of honour.
Lighting the inaugural lamp, John B Tlangtinkhuma in his speech said that the Expo has been organised with the objective of promoting handloom products in the State.
Pointing out that the Govt has implemented various schemes for the promotion of handloom and handicrafts, John Tlangtinkhuma said that three indigenous products of the State are in the process of getting Geographical Indication (GI) .
V Tualthang elaborated the need to open State emporium at metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata so as to boost the morale of the artisans by promoting their products.
