Ukhrul bids goodbye to V Horam, GNF offers condolences

The mortal remains of Vareingam Horam, a prominent NSCN (IM) leader, were on Friday laid to rest with patriotic honour and prayers at his birthplace Tusom CV in the district's northern region.
Vareingam Horam, executive member of the outfit's Steering Committee, died due to a prolonged ailment at Zion Hospital in Dimapur on October 13 morning.
He is survived by his wife Susan Horam and three children.
He was 60 .
The body of the departed Naga national leader was laid to rest at the cemetery of his native place during a grand funeral service held around 2 pm Friday.
His final rites and committal service was administered by local pastor.
A wide spectrum of public leaders drawn from different walks of life gatheredat Tusom CV to pay their final respect to the departed Naga leader.
On late Thursday evening, his mortal remains were received and accorded with guard of honour at Tusom village.
A grand condolence service in honour of the departed Naga leader was also organised by Tangkhul civil society at TNL Ground in Ukhrul town on Thursday.
NSCN (IM) chairman O Tuccu termed Horam's passing as a great loss for the Nagas.
V Horam reportedly joined the organisation in 1989 with full commitment and conviction.
"The vacuum created by his demise shall be difficult to be filled," Tuccu said.
Meanwhile, the Global Naga Forum (GNF), while offering condolences to the bereaved family, expressed its shock at the untimely demise of V Horam.
"With deepest sincerity, we salute and bid farewell to one of the sons of the Naga soil," it said in a statement.
"Our dear brother and friend lno V Horam fought the good fight and conquered.
Yes he did as a man of quality and intellect, yet a tjhjorough gentleman.
By courageously sacrificing his personal life and dreams against all odds and hegemonies at the altar of Naga Nation, he humbly but resolutely fought for all Nagas beyond arbitrary boundaries, for our fathers, mothers, and children of a future that a United Naga Homeland promises," it said.
The pain he has endured for so long embodies the pain of all Nagas, the aspirational battle for Nagas to live as one undivided people, the forum continued.
"We will never forget it.
Although short-lived in his passing, we believe he will live long enough to see the budding fruits of his sweat and blood that he sacrificed for us all.
The land memories of rare and tall leaders such as him will never die," it said.
Late Horam will be remembered as a true Naga son who remained consistent in his unwavering commitment to the Naga cause.
It is a great loss that he has left at this critical and most hopeful juncture of our long struggle, the forum added.
"May his memory and a life well lived for the cause of the nation comfort and strengthen you," it said.
