Imphal, October 15 2021:
Normal life in the state was affected on Friday due to the shutdown called by different underground groups against the merger of Manipur to India on this day in 1949 .
Different underground groups including the conglomerate group Coordination Committee (CorCom) observed October 15 as 'National Black Day' and imposed total shutdown.
Markets in Imphal city as well as in the periphery of Imphal remained closed for the day while passenger services remained off the road.
Attendance in government offices was reportedly thin as also movement on roads though those related with emergency services like medical, fire, water supply and religious ceremonies continued to ply as usual.
There was no report of any untoward incident during the shutdown period.
Our correspondent reported that the total shutdown also affected normal life in Jiribam district.
Vehicular movement was negligible for the day while government offices too remained closed as also petrol pumps.
Though Friday is normally a big business day for Jiri Keithel, all shops and business establishments in the district capital remained closed for the day.
