Imphal, June 15 2013 :
Taking into account of students thronging the Government Higher Secondary School in the state capital and district headquarters for admission, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has proposed to the Education Department and the Education Minister for a feasible policy to accommodate all the class XI students at the earliest possible to avoid problems at the 11th hour.
In a statement, President of DESAM WM Islauddin observed that as an encouraging trend, the number of students passing HSLC examination and seeking admission in Government Higher Secondary Schools has shot up significantly in the last 2-3 years.
Because of it, school authorities and the Education Department are confronting the problems to accommodate them.
On the other hand, hundreds of students who are from economically backward families are running from pillar to post to get admitted in some reputed government schools.
While noting that this year some institutions like TG, CC and Johnstone have received maximum number of application forms, Islauddin observed that as private schools charged admission fees ranging from Rs.500- 23,000, students have turned their attention to government schools.
So, in the interest of these students and to win the faith of the people on the Government schools again, a viable and long-term policy to provide seats to all admission seeking students has become necessary.
