Imphal, July 04 2013:
At least 10 people who were found dumping garbages in Khwairambad bazaar area were reportedly caught by officials of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC).
They were released after imposing a fine of Rs 300 each.
Addressing media persons in this connection at his office chamber today, Chairperson of IMC A Nimai stated that the main reason behind making Khwairamband bazaar dirty is throwing down of garbages from the balconies of the buildings in the market area and this is done mostly during night time.
So, no matter how many times IMC cleans up Khwairamband bazaar, if the people living in these areas continue to throw down grabages from their balconies at night, and the shopkeepers and customers continue to throw around rubbish, the market area is not going to be free of garbages.
The people need to be made aware of cleanliness and taught to throw garbages at proper places provided for the purpose, he added.
Nimai further stated that a social service camp is all set to be organized in the three Ima markets of Khwairamband bazaar jointly organized by Kangla Facebook Group, Blooming Manipur and IMC on July 7.A blood donation camp will also be organized on the occasion.
Umesh, Councilor of ward number 21, who was also present during the press conference, informed that a delegation of IMC officials had been to Tripura to see the functioning of Tripura Municipal Council, which is said to be quite efficient.
There it was found that the Sanitary section is equipped with 87 vehicles and altogether 470 staffs work under the section.
However, in Manipur, the vehicles are less and so also the staffs involved in the sanitary section.
As such, there is the need to increase the staff strength in this section.
