Imphal, July 04 2013:
Kuki Women Human Rights Organization (KWHRO), Churachandpur has demanded the Government of Manipur to adequately compensate the young couple who were filmed in the nude by four India Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawans.
Condemning the incident, the women's rights group said it was an attack on the dignity of women in general and added that it would not remain silent if the State Government failed to punish the accused jawans.
"Appropriate compensation should be given to the victims failing which KWHRO would be compelled to take up the matter seriously and the government will be responsible for any consequences arising out of it," the rights' body warned.
The four accused IRB personnel, two havildars and two riflemen, are currently being interrogated by police after the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Churachandpur remanded them to police custody for six days on Monday.
The accused four jawans, all belonging to Ist IRB, were arrested on Sunday by Churachandpur police following public outcry.
The Commandant of 1st IRB unit have also placed them under suspension and ordered a departmental inquiry against them.
An FIR was registered against them under sections 354, 431 IPC and 67 (A) of the IT Act.
