MU gets two new departments; MUTA charges refuted

Two new departments namely Sociology and Forestry & Environmental Science have been added in Manipur University from the current academic session 2013-14, informed Prof HNK Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University.
Addressing media persons at the Committee Room of the VC's office today, VC HNK Sharma stated that admission of students in the newly added departments namely Sociology and Forestry & Environmental Science will be started.
There will be 30 seats in the Sociology department and 16 seats in the Forestry & Environmental Science department.
He further stated that during the last academic session (2012-13), the number of students getting enrolled in Manipur University reached 1220 .
However, with the addition of the two departments, the number of students in the university will be increased to 1270 .
He also informed that there are at present 8600 e-books in the university library.

In addition to this, the students of the institute have been provided with internet facilities along with the installation of 50 sets of computers in the library.
The students of this institute have not only excelled in academics but have also brought laurels to the institute in the field of games and sports and cultural activities at the national level.
Prof HNK Sharma went on to inform that there are altogether 257 sanctioned posts in the teaching faculty but only 178 posts has been occupied.
Among the vacant posts include 31 seats for Professors and 32 seats for Associate Professors.
Refuting the charges leveled against the Manipur University by Manipur University Teachers Association, the Vice Chancellor stated that the advertisement for the post of Controller and Finance Officer was made and accordingly the Selection Committee conducted the screening process on November 11, 2011.But since there was no candidate fit for the post, there were no regular appointment.
However, another screening would be done again during the next two months.
If no qualified candidates come up this time again, the post will remain vacant as usual.
As a VC, he cannot do anything in this regard, Prof HNK Sharma added.
Prof N Lokendro, Registrar of MU; Prof N Irabanta, Dean of School of Life Science; Prof P Nabachandra, Dean of School of Humanities; Prof E Bijoykumar, Dean of School of Social Sciences were among others who were present on the occasion.
