Imphal, July 04 2013:
Revamping module of service tax payment and make the process more convenient for the tax-payers, State's Information Technology (IT) Department would soon develop a system called 'Payment Gateway' to facilitate tax payment through the internet.
The 'Payment Gateway' facility would also be available at a specific counter in all the Nationalised banks.
Noting inconveniences faced by the tax payers in clearing the dues for electricity/water bills and other taxes the IT Department is preparing to develop the system under which credit card and debit card holders may clear service taxes through the internet, informed an official source.
In the initial stages the new system would cover Power, PHE, Revenue, Taxation, Agriculture, Education (Schools) and CAF&PD departments, said the source adding that an agreement has been reached between the IT Department and a firm called NDL to make the system operational at the earliest possible.
It is said that the first meeting to introduce 'Payment Gateway' system was convened today at the conference hall of Old secretariat complex which was presided over by the Additional Chief Secretary RR Rashmi and attended by top officials of department concerned.
Even though a tentative agreement was reached at the meeting having representatives of various departments and nationalised banks the final decision for actual implementation of the new system would be taken in another meeting, the source said.
