Governor lauds role of AR in curbing drug menace

Imphal, January 31 2022: Governor La Ganesan has lauded the Assam Rifles for taking the leading role in curbing drug menace in the state.

Speaking at the Investiture Ceremony held on Monday at Durbar.

Hall of Raj Bhavan, the Governor expressed satisfaction that IGAR (South) recovered drugs worth approximately Rs 1800 crore.

He said, Assam Rifles is popular particularly in the North East and therefore, is now-a-days popularly known as "Sentinels of North East".

While recalling the tragic incident that killed Colonel Viplab Tripathy, the then commanding officer of 46 Assam Rifles along with his family and seven personnel in November 2021, Ganesan said, his sacrifice indeed inspired all ranks in the army.

He further noted that security forces have been making tremendous efforts and contributions towards maintaining law and order as well as protecting the country at different situations and places.

Those who are receiving these honours will find ways of serving the nation and communities, he said.

The Governor also thanked the officers and expressed confidence that they will leave no stone unturned to discharge their valuable responsibilities to uphold the dignity and sovereignty of our nation.

Governor handed over four citations to commandant of 16 AR colonel Aditya Deo, commandant of 20 AR colonel J Narayanan, commandant of 24 AR colonel Tejas B Candade and commandant of 25 AR colonel Vikas Saha and one appreciation letter to IGAR (South) major general Alok Naresh.

DGP Manipur P Doungel, additional chief secretaries MH Khan and P Vaiphei attended the ceremony among other special invitees and guests.

Meanwhile, Major General Rajan Sharawat took over the reins of Assam Rifles in Manipur as the new Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) .

In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that Major General Rajan Sharawat relieved Maj Gen Alok Naresh who proceeded on posting after successfully completing his tenure.

Rajan Sharawat, who is highly qualified and proficient officer with vast counter insurgency experience, has previously commanded a unit in Assam and a Brigade in Jammu and Kashmir.

The General Officer appealed to the people of Manipur to continue extending their love and support to the security forces and also urged the state government officials and members of the media for their cooperation and empathy.

The General Officer further exhorted all ranks of the IGAR (South) to continue striving for peace and prosperity in Manipur.
