In yet another controversial death following vaccination, a 50-year-old man from Andro Mamang Leikai died five days after receiving Covid vaccine.
Interestingly, the victim's body was reportedly handed over to family members by JNIMS authority after conducting post mortem and conducting RTPCR test without their knowledge.
Soon after the family members cremated the body as per their religious belief and ritual, the victim's name appeared the Covid positive list of the following day.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Andro Eastern Library and Mamang Leikai Youth Club premises on Wednesday, club general secretary Asheibam Nandakumar said that the test result has created confusion among the family members as well as friends and relatives who attended the funeral service without faking up Covid appropriate precautions.
He demanded a clarification from the JNIMS director in this connection and the government to provide appropriate compensation to the bereaved family.
Nandakumar further said that the victim, namely Phanjoubam Bheigo, received Covid vaccine on August 3 afternoon.
He was having no health issues prior to the vaccination but he developed body ache and uncomfortable feeling on the same day of receiving the vaccination.
As his condition worsened, he was rushed to JNIMS casualty on August 8 around 4 pm but they found it closed.
From there, he was taken to RIMS but doctors could not find a pulse on reaching there.
RAT was conducted there and the result came negative.
Doctors on duty enquired if he recently received Covid vaccine and advised them for post mortem to ascertain the reason of his death.
The body was brought back home.
But after discussing the situation, they again took the body to JNIMS mortuary for post mortem.
Post mortem was conducted on August 9 and the body was handed over to the family members after which they cremated the body as per their religious belief and ritual.
Surprisingly, the family members found the victim's name in the list of Covid positive patients on the next day, Nandakumar recounted.
Nandakumar further said that JNIMS authority did not provide any information regarding the RTPCR test.
It is also questionable why the JNIMS authority handed over the body to the family members without following Covid protocols before knowing the RTPCR test results.
As a result, those who attended the funeral are at risk of infection and who will be held responsible for the negligence of the hospital authority, he enquired.
He then demanded the government to compensate the victim's family and JNIMS authority to clarify on the negligence.
He also appealed to the DC Imphal East district to look into the matter and take up appropriate legal actions against the official responsible.
At the same time, the contact number mentioned against Bheigo's test result as published by the government, does not belong to Bheigo or any of his family members, he said.
He also demanded JNIMS authority to provide the post mortem report to the family members at the earliest.
