Imphal, June 09 2022:
Pointing out that the present road expansion work being taken up by NHIDCL along NH Imphal-Jiri route is only 60 feet instead of the four-lane highway, Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeshor (Keba) has appealed to NHIDCL for halting the expansion work for a while as he will be sending a letter to the central government after discussing with the CM and the works minister for expanding it by 100 ft as desired by the people.
MLA Keba on Thursday inspected the NH-37 expansion work from Oriental College to Yurembam under Patsoi A/C.Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection, MLA Keba expressed hope that the highway expansion activities being taken up by NHIDCL will be done efficiently and sincerely.
No objection or obstruction has been given to the activities from any side.
As the road expansion has completed, the process of blacktopping has begun.
Moreover, construction of drainage on the sides of the road has been completed, he noted.
The MLA informed that the road, which is the lifeline of the state, has been expanded to only 60 feet contrary to desire of people of the area for a four-lane road.
The government had already acquired the land expansion of the road to 100 feet that forced many families to leave their houses and shift their business as they trusted the government, the MLA added.
In view of the present road expansion, there is no need to evict the houses and shops, Keba stated, while urging NHIDCL to halt the ongoing road expansion process for a while.
There is the need to fulfil PM Narendra Modi's objective of improving connectivity.
As such, a letter will be sent to the centre after discussing it with CM N Biren and the works minister so that the road could be expanded to 100 ft.
If the road has been expanded to only 60 feet due to shortage of fund, then there is a need to seek more funds from the centre and expand it up to the level of four-lane highway, the MLA maintained, while urging to resume road expansion activities after coming to an understanding.
