Police probing terrorist funding angle: IGP

Imphal, June 09 2022: Apart from informing that a special investigation team (SIT) of Manipur police is carrying out elaborate investigation against self-styled president of the Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland (DRK) Mark Thangmang Haokip, IGP Zone-1 Themthing Ngasangva has revealed that altogether 286 bank statements of huge transactions suspected to be funding under Terrorist Act have been recovered.

Addressing a press conference at the conference hall of SP Imphal West here on Thursday, Themthing said that the SIT team led by additional SP (IUCAW) Rattana Ngasekpam is carrying out investigation against DRK self-styled president Mark Thangmang Haokip and the investigation assisted by SDPO Imphal West and OC of Imphal police station is making considerable progress.

The SIT team has now established that Mark Thangmang Haokip and other members of DRK operate different bank accounts and the SIT team has recovered a total of 286 bank statements related two bank accounts.

One of the bank accounts was opened in Manipur and other outside the state.

Both the accounts have multiple transactions from multiple sources and investigation is on to ascertain sources of funding and use in various terrorist acts and terrorist conspiracy, he said, adding that forensic examination is being carried out on various incriminating documents including electronic and digital records recovered during the course of the investigation.

According to Themthing Ngasangva, Mark Haokip and other members of the outfit launched false propaganda through their machineries to create a pan secessionist movement and create hatred and violence to achieve their goal (Democratic Republic of Kukiland) .

The outfit's aim is to gain sovereign power from the state for the so called Kukiland, which comprises areas under India, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

During the process of investigation, it has come to light that Mark Haokip committed forgery on records for processing his Indian passport application and an FIR has been registered in this regard, he added.

Regarding the incident that happened at RIMS, Themthing Ngasangva said that two FIRs have been registered by Lamphel police, one for thrashing patient party and another for creating communal hatred.

He then appealed to people not to take up any step which could create enmity among different communities and police will take necessary action against such people.
