Coming to the rescue of the displaced students whose normal education has been disrupted due to the on-going ethnic conflict in Manipur, Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) and Global Manipur Federation (GMF) launched a joint initiative under which Meetei diaspora living in Japan, Taiwan and Delhi started conducting virtual classes for student residents of a relief camp in Kakching district from November 18.Following the positive response, the initiative has also subsequently covered two more relief camps - Heingang and Akampat.
In a joint release, DMCC and GMF informed that a few more relief camps will be covered in the coming weeks with the hope of fostering deeper understanding and inclusivity.
They have been presenting cross-cultural insights across three consecutive classes with the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology, Imphal extending help in the form of providing space for the virtual classes.
According to the joint, a team of diaspora from Taiwan including Basanta Haobijam and Harishore Tourangbam, Raj Bobo Khumukcham and Oinam Lalhaba from Japan and Oliver Oinam from Delhi are currently conducting the online classes with coordination of volunteers of the relief camps in Manipur.
With the lifting of mobile internet ban, the team is expecting to include more relief camps and contribute to uplifting the plight of the students, the release stated, while adding that the virtual classes are designed to impart practical life skills to children staying in relief camps that go beyond the conventional school curriculum.
