MPCC piles pressure on MPs to raise State issue in Parliament

Imphal, December 09 2023: A team of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has submitted a memorandum each to the three Members of Parliament (MPs) from Manipur to raise the State's burning issue in the ongoing Parliamentary session.

The memorandum was submitted to Outer Manipur MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze, Inner Manipur MP RK Ranjan Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba by a MPCC team led by its vice president Hareshwar Goshwami, today. Earlier (on December 6), MPCC president K Megha-chandra had also urged the three MPs to present the situation in Manipur before other MPs in the ongoing Parliamentary session and make Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak about the issue.

The winter session of the Parliament will continue till December 22 .

In the memorandum, the MPCC sought attention from the Centre to rehabilitate all the displaced people immediately and to compensate them suitably at the earliest.

The Congress party also asked the Government to take up immediate measures to restore normalcy in Manipur.

Saying that the crisis in Manipur began in Kangvai, Churachandpur after the Tribal Solidarity March organised by the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3 turned violent, the MPCC continued that Manipur has been litarally burning since then.

More than 60,000 people have been displaced, many are missing while around 200 persons have lost their lives, it said and added that many bodies are still lying unclaimed at mortuaries.

The MPCC further said that around 6,000 weapons were snatched or looted from police posts and battalions along with several rounds of ammunition.

Continuing that there is no sign of normalcy being restored in Manipur even after seven long, torturous and painful months, the MPCC said that Manipur is lagging behind in every aspect of development and the grief and misery of the people are manifold.

Taking serious note of the situation, the MPCC urged the three MPs to raise the issue of Manipur in the winter session of Parliament and possibly work out a solution to the protracted crisis with serious intervention of the Central leadership.
