Exquisite flowers now adorn Purul

Exquisite flowers, often used in bouquets in plush hotels, events and big events/parties, are now being successfully grown at Purul village, Senapati district.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, PS Thole Cain a resident of Purul village, which is located around 16 kilometres from Maram along the Imphal-Dimapur road, said that apart from generating income, the exquisite flowers are also attracting a large number of people every year to the village.
Cain, who dropped out after Class XII, said that he began planting Alstroemeria (commonly called the Peruvian lily or lily of the Incas), Carnation, Lilium and Gladiolus, at his three green houses from 2005 .

Explaining that one of his green houses was gifted by the local MLA while another was presented by the Horticulture Department after seeing his enthusiasm and hard work, PS Thole Cain said that his flowers sell for around Rs 10-15 per piece.
Stating that he easily earns Rs 1-2 lakh per annum after deducting all expenses like procuring seeds or saplings and paying off the people who are employed to look after the flowers, he said that the area has been transformed into an eco-park and it also has home-stay facilities.
Demands for the flowers are high and the only problem is trying to meet that demand, he remarked adding that he sends his flowers to Imphal and Nagaland.
On the other hand, he informed that a one night stay at the three room home-stay facility available at the park, costs Rs 1000 and added that many National and foreign tourists have stayed in the facility.
