Imphal, January 28 2020:
In the wake of the swift outbreak of coronavirus in China, the Kamjong Development Committee (KDC) has issued a travel advisory to the people of the region as well as the State, urging them to refrain from visiting Myanmar through Kamjong district.
A statement issued by the chairman of KDC conveyed that for the safety of the public and as precautionary measure against possible spread/infection by the virus, KDC has decided to impose a ban on visitors from Myanmar from coming to or passing through Kamjong headquarters, as well as import of any commodities.
It appealed to the border villagers located along the Indo-Myanmar border to keep a strict vigil and to stop the locals from visiting the neighbouring country apart from preventing movement of people from Myanmar's side as well.
It explained that it is best for the people to take all possible and precautionary steps and added that Kamjong areas, being situated next to unmanned international border with Myanmar, sharing close proximity to China, is very vulnerable.
The region might may face a catastrophic situation if the infection reaches here, it added.
Appealing the public to extend support and cooperation to the precautionary steps being initiated by the committee, KDC urged the State Government to extend arrangements to monitor and control human movement across the porous Indo-Myanmar border.
