Water level recedes but still above warning stage

Imphal, October 24 2020:
Imphal River which was flowing above warning level till yesterday following incessant rainfall in the State during the last few days has started receding.
However, the level of Nambul River has been rising.
According to information received from Water Resources Department, the water level of Imphal River has come down by 0.025 metre from 787.650 metres but it is still flowing above the warning level.
Meanwhile, the water level of Nambul River has reached 782.925 metres.

Even as all the three gates of Ithai Barrage have been opened, water levels of Nambol River, Thoubal River and Manipur River have been rising steadily.
Rainfall rates received at different places of the State today were Kangpokpi 34 mm (morning), nil (afternoon); Saikul 47 mm (morning), 32 mm (afternoon), Litan 24 mm (morning), 6 mm (afternoon); Raj Bhavan 36 mm (morning), 28 mm (afternoon); Lamphel 39 mm (morning), 30 mm (afternoon) and Jiribam 13 mm (morning).
KANGPOKPI: The water level along Gundung river which flows to Imphal from Kangpokpi visibly receded despite continuous rainfall in the district today.
Despite the receding level, the water level is still high at this time of the year which unlike earlier years.
The incessant rainfall in the past 4/5 days has also caused damages at different parts of the district.
Most of the inter village roads at Kangpokpi DHQs were seen damaged by the overflowing drainage water while there is a major damage at the base of the National Highway in between Pangmol village and Motbung model village as seen in a viral video.
If the base of the highway is eroded further, it can pose a threat to the safety of commuters and vehicles.
National Highway 2 has already been cut off due to a massive landslide at Khongnem near Senapati since last night.
Normal life in the district headquarters has also been disrupted following the non-stop rainfall.
It rained throughout the day today at the district headquarters and stretched on till late in the evening.
Residents residing near Gundung river expressed apprehension after the water level rose beyond the danger mark in the past few days but which has now receded.
Some residents had shifted to safer places and returned after the water level receded.
