Three INC supporters hurt in firing attack

Imphal, January 24, 2012:
Three Indian National Congress workers were injured when some unidentified armed persons attacked a polling office at Noney while three IEDs were found near the residences of Minister Parijat's workers as attacks against INC workers continue in both valley and hill districts.
Police sources informed that some unidentified gunmen opened fired at a polling office of INC at Noney area under Tamenglong district at around 2 am today.
Three workers of MPCC president Gaikhangam were injured in the firing and later admitted to RIMS.
The injured persons have been identified as T Goujalung (20), Lungkurei (29) and Gangchumei, all from Noney.
Goujalung suffered bullet wounds at both legs, while left leg of Lungkurei and right thigh of Gangchumei were also wounded in the attack, police said.
Unknown armed persons also abducted an INC worker of Gaikhangam last night.
Congress Unit leader Abon Golmei was abducted from his Tupul residence by some unidentified persons armed with sophisticated weapons.
In search of Abon, villagers of Tupul area thronged Marangching Part V area, suspecting that he might be there but they were not able to locate him as the captors reportedly moved towards Haochong side.
In connection with the incident, the villagers destroyed the house of one Lansingam, an NSCN (IM) activist and rounded up his younger brother.
The villagers decided to take Lansingam's younger brother as hostage till the safe release of Abon is ensured.
In yet another incident, unidentified persons also attempted to abduct Nungba BCC president Dimthaochung last night but he escaped with the help of some village youths.
Speaking to reporters, MPCC president Gaikhangam appealed to the Election Commission of India for strict monitoring of illegal activities of UG groups in support of their sponsored candidates.
He maintained that ZUF cadres who were openly supporting MSCP candidates, threatened and even physically assaulted many INC workers in Tamenglong AC.
He alleged that NSCN (IM) is also backing many NPF candidates in Tamenglong district and they are carrying out various form of crimes against the villagers who support INC candidates.
Such illegal threats and disturbances emboldened congress supporters to work more vigorously to ensure victory of Congress nominees in the coming elections, he said Meanwhile, three workers of Agriculture minister and CPI candidate Ph Parijat were attacked with IEDs last night.
The three IEDs were located from the residences of one Khumbongmayum Japan (39) of Nongada Makha Leikai, Huirem Bimol of Nongpok Kakching and Moirangthem Menjor of Nongren.
Japan and Mejor are active workers of Parijat while Bimol is a PRO of the Minister.
The bombs were supposed to be exploded with remote control and fixed with mobile phones.
Explosive experts of Manipur police recovered the bombs and exploded them safely in an open field of Nongpok Kakching.
In another incident, the Kakching Shumak Leikai residence of Kakching municipal council councillor Kshetrimayum Chaoba was attacked by some unidentified persons with hand grenades at around 11.30 pm yesterday.
The attackers exploded the bomb at the courtyard of Chaoba's residence which killed two dogs.
A hand grenade was also recovered from the Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Maning residence of one Naorem Nepal at around 7.15 am today.
A bomb expert team of Manipur Police retrieved the grenade this morning.
Some unidentified gunmen also attacked the residences of two INC workers at Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai today.
The incident occurred at the residences of former Imphal East Adakshya Laiphrakpam Khomdon (51) and Moirangthem Ibomcha (41). The unidentified gunmen simultaneously fired about 10 rounds at the said residences even though there is no report of human casualty.
In a similar incident, some unidentified persons attacked the Lamding Laikon residence of Mutum Inaocha (30), an active worker of INC MLA Okram Landhoni, at around 3 am today.
