Imphal, July 23 2013:
Arrival of police reinforcement averted possible violent incident as candidates in favour of conducting MBBS/BDS entrance examination today stormed the RIMS Road office of Medical directorate.
Even though a brief scuffle broke out between the candidates and their parents/guardians with the police personnel deployed at the office complex, arrival of more police personnel of Lamphel police station brought the situation under control.
The protesting candidates who reached the office complex at around 11.30 am, however scattered some office documents/files as they managed to barge inside the office room.
as the police personnel herded them out of the office rooms the candidates raised slogans that they had no intention to indulge in violent acts for their wish was only to meet the Director (Health) and urge the incumbent to start official procedures for conducting the medical entrance test.

Later two parent and same number candidates were allowed to meet the Director Asem Bijoy.
According to All Manipur MBBS/BDS Parents/Guardians' Association secretary Arun Kumar, Director Bijoy declining to comment on the issue conceded that he would act in compliance with whatever decision the State Cabinet takes with regard to State PMT.
Referring to the recent Cabinet decision, Arun kumar prevailed upon the Government of Manipur that there is no need for following decision of other States on whether or not MBBS/BDS entrance test would be conducted.
As the Supreme Court had on July 18 quashed the Medical Council of India's common medical test (NEET), State Government not complying with the apex court ruling would amount to contempt of court, cautioned the secretary who also expressed strong resentment that memorandums submitted to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Health Director and other officials had not evoked positive response till date.
On the otherhand, Parents' Association of Selected Candidates (NEET/UG-2013) has reiterated its appeal to the Government of Manipur for conducting counselling for the NEET successful candidates of Manipur.
speaking to mediapersons at Manipur Press Club today, Association president advocate S Raghubir Singh explained that the recent Supreme Court ruling on NEET-UG 2013 had no prohibition on admission and other relevant processes for those candidates who had already qualified in NEET scheme of examination.
As other States have already commenced counselling procedures the same needs to be implemented by the Government of Manipur, he said.
