Man held for coercing voters

As part of the measures taken up by the Election Commission for free and fair Assembly polls, a person has been arrested for allegedly distributing pamphlets that asked the voters to support MSCP candidate in Wangkhei AC, Okram Henry.
Oinam Jayenta of Paomai Colony allegedly circulated pamphlets that read as 'vote for O Henry or face the consequences.' As the CEO received a complaint in this regard, the CEO directed the SP of Imphal East to take action against Jayenta.
Following CEO's directive, he was picked up from his residence at around 9.30 last night by a team of Heingang Police Station.
Jayenta is in now the custody of Heingang Police Station and he will be produced before the Court on Monday, said a police source.
RK Imo gets bail: MSCP candidate of Sagolband A/C, RK Imo, who was arrested for disrupting police in discharging duty, was released on bail last night.
He was taken into police custody yesterday evening.
Slain man identified: The suspected UG cadre slain in a reported encounter with Imphal West commandos at Kyamgei Shantipur in Imphal East district last night has been identified as one Md Jamir (30) of Keirao Makting.
It is said that Md Jamir used to work as a compounder in a private dental clinic at Paona Bazar.
In connection with the killing of Jamir, a public meeting was held today at Keirao Makting Major Ingkhol.
It was reported that some unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade towards a team of Imphal West commandos at Kyamgei Shantipur at around 10 pm yesterday.
Though the grenade exploded no commando personnel was injured and they retaliated by opening fire.
While one of the UG suspects was killed in retaliatory fire, two others managed to escape under cover of darkness, claimed police.
