Imphal, July 09 2011:
Contending that 37-year old Soibam Ibomcha of Malom Tulihal, who was arrested by a team of Central security force late last night is innocent, locals have raised a demand for immediate release of the married man.
Speaking to newspersons in connection with the arrest of Ibomcha at Manipur Press Club today, representatives of local women organisations said at around mid-night yesterday well-armed unidentified persons in security uniform came looking for Ibomcha at his home.
Expressing that the men, among whom some spoke fluent Manipuri, seem to be security force personnel, they said the entire house was thoroughly searched after which Ibomcha was pulled out from bed.
Further recounting that the security men spurned insistence of the family members and neighbours to furnish arrest memo, the women activists said the locals were asked to come to Thoubal.
As insisted, some of the family members and locals followed the men in uniform who initially signalled them to move ahead only to speed away in the darkness along the way.
In addition to promptly approaching officials of the Central security forces stationed at Tulihal Airport to trace Ibomcha's whereabouts, Imphal west district police authorities were informed about the arrest at daybreak, they maintained while adding that information was finally received of Ibomcha being handed over to Kakching police station with the charge that he was arrested as a PLA activist from Kakching Tezpur.
Stating that Ibomcha has been arrested on concocted charges and demanding his immediate release, they also informed that he is a rice trader.
