UNC, ANSAM flay Noney incident

The United Naga Council (UNC) and All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) have today strongly condemned the incident that occurred at Noney (Longmai) in Tamenglong district yesterday wherein some strike supporters were injured following a skirmish between security forces and the agitators.
Expressing resentment over yesterday's incident, a public curfew imposed by the two Naga bodies in Naga areas seriously affected life in the hill districts of Manipur today.
The curfew, which was enforced from 6 am till 6 pm today totally paralyzed life in Naga areas in Manipur which have already been affected by a 72-hour total bandh since midnight of November 3.Roads and public places in the hill districts wore a deserted look due to the bandh and the public curfew.
An emergency public meeting was held today at Longmai Bazaar (Noney) in connection with the ongoing total bandh imposed by UNC and ANSAM and the Noney incident.
In the meeting organized by UNC and ANSAM, many leaders said the bandh being enforced in Naga areas and economic blockade on National Highways should not be lifted until their demands are met by the State Government.
UNC and ANSAM leaders, who spoke at the meeting, announced that an intense agitation will be followed up after the three days total bandh which ends on Sunday.
Public leaders from Longmai area expressed unhappiness over the incident that took place at Noney and condemned the police action.
At least 10 persons were injured and public properties were also damaged when security forces fired teargas shells and live bullets to control a mob at Noney on Friday.
Three vehicles� two betel leaves loaded vehicles and one police vehicle�were also burned by the mob following a melee between bandh supporters and State police commando personnel.
