Denouncing police action of baton charging and firing tear gas shells on civilians in which 10 persons including eight students sustained injuries at Ngaikhong Khullen Maning Leikai in Bishnupur district yesterday, people of Ngaikhong and surrounding areas staged a protest demonstration while students of the locality took out a protest rally.
Some people of Ngaikhong Khullen have been charging that the incident was planned by MLA Dr I Ibohalbi.
Decrying the alleged narrow political perspective of MLA Ibohalbi as well as the excesses committed by police, the local people staged a protest demonstration at Ngaikhong Khullen Bazar.
On the other hand, condemning the reported act of firing tear gas shells and baton charging by police on the students and teachers of Little Star English School, students of the schools and other schools located nearby took out a protest rally.
At Ngaikhong Khullen Bazar, the protesters put up placards which read as "MLA Dr I Ibohalbi is a leader who has no humane perspective and it was proved by the October 3 incident", "Unqualified MLA Ibohalbi should apologise to the people", "Ibohalbi has been banned from entering Ngaikhong Khullen", "Police should stop targeting innocent civilians" etc.
Likewise, the student protesters carried placards which read as "We condemn police excesses", "Let the students study peacefully, free from any sense of fear", "We want peace" etc.
After going through Ngaikhong Khullen and surrounding areas, the student protesters came to Ngaikhong Khullen Bazar and joined the sit-in-protest being staged there.
Convenor of newly constituted JAC Against the MLA and Police Atrocities to the People of Ngaikhong Khullen, Th Iboyaima alleged that the incident was instigated by Oinam AC MLA Dr I Ibohalbi.
A memorandum containing detail reports about yesterday's incident as well as alleged misappropriation of NREGS and other development funds would be submitted to the Chief Minister very soon, Iboyaima said.
In case no positive response is forthcoming, complaints would be lodged to relevant Ministries of the Union Govt, he added.
