Imphal, May 03 2011:
Reiterating its charter of demands which included immediate withdrawal of AFSPA 1958 from North East region, immediate transfer of 11 AR from Zeliangrong areas and befitting punitive action against the alleged high handed Col Chonkar of 11 AR, the All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) has appealed to all Zeliangrong public including village chairmen, secretaries and leaders not to welcome/accept any kind of development work under military civic action programmes.
A press release issued by the student body claimed that Col Chonkar has been campaigning among the Zeliangrong public in the name of extending MCA programmes in Tamenglong district so that he can cover up his past misdeeds and high handedness.
He has invited village chairmen/secretaries of Tamenglong district to a meeting on May 6 at Tamenglong Hqs to draw up an action plan/work programme of MCA programmes for 2011-12 .
Asking the Zeliangrong people to be wary of the alleged evil design of the Indian Army, the AZSU asserted that any one who attends the said meeting would be treated as anti-Zeliangrong and anti-Naga.
It further accused Col Chonkar of gifting a computer set to Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamenglong District only to take it back because the student body refused to follow his diktats.
It further urged the Government of India to initiate appropriate action against the Colonel so that peaceful atmosphere in Naga areas is restored once again, failing which AZSU in cooperation with other like minded civil societies would launch series of democratic agitation until the demand is fulfilled.
