Imphal, February 13:
Decrying the murderous assault on the general secretary of All Manipur Working Journalist Union, Geetartha Pathak, secretary of the Indian Journalists' Union has stated that violence and intimidations against journalists should be stopped immediately.
At all costs journalists should be given their unfettered rights to discharge their duties without fear, said Pathak while interacting with media persons at Hotel Nirmala yesterday.
Significantly, Pathak is also a member of the Press Council of India.
Taking note of the killing of three editors earlier, Pathak said that the State Government should take adequate steps to ensure the safety and security of journalists working in the State.
Pathak also took a serious note of security personnel assaulting reporters on duty and added that the freedom of the press should be honoured and respected by all.
