Imphal, February 13:
Contrary to the previous beauty pageants, NACHOMs Miss Manipur Contest 2006 focuses more on upholding the traditional values and ethics rather than just blind imitation of the West.
In the run-up events so far to the grand finale on February 18 at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre, traditional flavours are very much evident which promises a unique finale for the contest organised under the theme celebrating beauties with a cause.
Besides the customary sub-titles which have been given Manipuri nomenclature, a special sub-title named Ningthibi Nachom have been added.
For this sub-title, contestants are supposed to wear a bunch of flowers in their ears among whom the best would be adjudged the winner of Ningthibi Nachom.
Mentioned may be made here that Manipuri women used to adorn themselves with flowers of their own pick and their facial make up was never complete without a Nachom (bunch of flower).
The contest for this sub-title along with Ningthibi Mapung Phabi Tara (Miss Perfect Ten) sub-title was held on Saturday last besi-de the historic Ningthem Pukhri.
Most of the contes-tants expressed preference of Man ipuri culture and tradition over Western atti-res.
One Sunita Thokchom vying for the coveted title of Miss Manipur and whose mother is a Tangkhul appreciated the innovative appro ach of the organisers and their successful blending of traditional values and the modern culture.
