Imphal, February 13:
Taking note of the charges levelled against Ratan Luwangcha by the KCP after shooting him without bringing the matter to All Manipur Working Journalists' Union first, the Editors' Forum Manipur (EFM) and AMWJU today said that in line with natural justice, until the charges against the accused are substan-tiated, Ratan will be treated as innocent.
In a joint statement, EFM and AMWJU said that if the guilt is established, then due action will be taken according to the parameters laid down by the scribe bodies.
For justice to prevail, AMWJU urged the KCP to submit a white paper on the case to the Union at the earliest possible.
The EFM and AMWJU also appealed to an indepen-dent body to conduct a thorough probe into the matter and establish the facts.
Ratan Luwangcha started working as a journalist from 1998, said the statement and added that during these long years of association with the media, no armed group has ever said anything against him or for him.
Keeping this in mind he was made the general secretary of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union, further said the statement.
