14th Dark Day Observation held

The 14th Dark Day Observation which is been held every year in commemoration of the occupation of the Kangla fort by the British on April 27, 1891 was held today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen today.
The function which was organized by the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) was graced by MLA Dr Kh Ratan; Johnson Elangbam, President, IPSA and Dr N Joykumar of History Department, MU as the Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Delivering the key note address of the function, W Homeshwar, General Secretary, IPSA said that we need to let the world know of the fact that the forefathers of our state had selflessly sacrificed their lives for the sake of their motherland in fighting for the freedom that it genuinely deserved.
He further informed that the British had occupied Manipur and hoisted their Union Jack at Kangla after the Anglo Manipuri War ended in April 27, 1891.Since that day, Manipur which had been an independent kingdom since time immemorial came under the dominion of the British Empire.
He also informed that the mighty British after conquering almost all the South East Asian countries set their foot in India and further captured the whole of it.
Soon after that, the British turned towards Manipur and declared war against the small kingdom.
Our ancestors, with the very little and outdated weapons they have, compared to the sophisticated weapons the British soldiers then held, fought the mighty British and sacrificed their lives for the sake of their motherland.
The Manipur Kingdom which had always been an independent kingdom came under the hands of the mighty British in the Anglo Manipuri war.
Social activist, RK Ranendrajit and KT Rehman, President, AMUCO were also present on the occasion.
