The four were transferred to Tihar by a special flight from Tulihal yesterday at 9.30 am.
The four were transferred to Tihar as there are strong apprehensions that they may be master minding a number of extortion, abduction, triggering bomb blast, opening fire etc from within the four walls of Sajiwa jail, said the source.
On the other hand a number of other inmates rose in revolt to protest the move to transfer them to Tihar jail, yesterday morning.
Preparations to move the four out Sajiwa jail started early morning yesterday.
The other inmates rose in revolt at about 7.30 pm, said the source and added that additional police force arrived from Imphal East and West and along with the jail security staff and CRPF personnel cracked down on the agitating inmates.
To bring the situation under control, the security personnel fired tear gas shells and in the ensuing fracas, at least 17 inmates were injured.
They had to be taken to JN hospital but were discharged after first aid as there were no serious cases.
This is not the first time inmates of Sajiwa had risen in revolt.
On November 19 inmates had raised a protest when one convict was being taken out.
Some time back five police personnel including the jailer were over powered and kept captives by the inmates.
The matter was settled only at the personal intervention of the Jail SP.
Some months back a clash had broken out between the inmates resulting in grievous injuries to some of the inmates.
Jail riots have occured occasionally.
