Lamka, January 25:
The series of agitation launched by ZEPADA against mode of functioning of the Public Distribution System here finally appears to have borne some fruits as an official working in the District Supply Dept has been held responsible for allegedly misappropriating at least Rs 72 lakhs worth of goods.
Informing this correspondent of the significant development, the DC of CCpur, Sumant Singh today claimed that a criminal case has already been registered with the police against Md Ahmed Ali, an LDC working under the DSO/CCpur last Saturday.
Ahmed, an official responsible for lifting the district's PDS supply was held responsible for misusing three months quota, that is for the months of February, May and July.
The goods include 8290.20 quintals of BPL rice, 4857 quintals of AAY rice and 1400 quintals of sugar.
It may however be noted that this finding may only be the tip of the iceberg.
In a similar development, DSO/CCpur has issued a show cause notice on two LPG agencies here after its officials discovered on Thursday last, that 'weight of samples of filled cylinders which were weighed was found to be less than the prescribed standard weight'.
The two agencies have been asked to respond within three days as to why appropriate action should not be initiated against them for their alleged breach on the standard weight.
A couple of additional show-cause notices on Kerosene Oil agents/sub-dealers are also reportedly in the offing, said sources from the Deputy Commissioner's office here.
