In an initiative to put the state back in gear, a committee called the Committee for Restoration of Normalcy (CRN), with senior citizens of the state as its members was formed today by the present PR administration.
The newly formed committee has appealed to all sections of the people to stay calm and to desist from violent activities.
The divisional commissioner Ch.
Birendra Singh is the convener of the committee, newly formed with a view ot bring the state back to gear after the post cease-fire extension upheaval.
The Imphal west and Imphal East deputy commissioners have been appointed the joint convener by the PR administration.
The first meeting of the committee was held at the State Guest House today.
The meeting was attended by senior advocate A Nilamani, RK Jhalajit, Helim Chaudhuri, Padmashree N Khelchandra, E Yaima, Dr Ch Jamini Devi, Haokholal Thangjom, K Prango, R Maurnglung, RK Theko, Mahendrakumar Patani, K Madhumangol, Y Radhesyam, S Kunjabihari, Khoute(DIG-R-1), Imphal East and West SPs.
At the outset, the meeting observed a two minute silence as a mark of respect to the 14 killed in the June 18 incident.
The committee in its first meeting resolved to advise the state administration to improve the present law and order situation.
The meeting also held threadbare discussion means to defuse the prevailing tension in the state and to prevent any violent activities.
Observing that the imposition of day long curfew in the state has caused harassment and untold sufferings to the general public, the committee also expressed to relax the curfew and take other preventive measures which will have less effect on the people.
The meeting also discussed the NSCN(IM) and government of India�s agreement to extend the cease-fire into Manipur and the term� without territorial limits� and its outcome in the last few days.
During the meeting it was resolved to appeal the people to restrain from any violence till a decision is arrived at over the cease-fire extension, maintaining that it is being discussed at a very high level.
It may be mentioned here that the committee was formed in compliance with a Union ministry of home affair�s instruction.
During the meeting, Dr Ch Jamini Devi put up the problem faced by the pregnant women over their maternity cases.
The meeting considering the point also advised the government to make special arrangement to redress these problems.
It also reported that the ambulances of the JN and RIMS hospitals have been given instruction to transport delivery cases to the hospital on demand.
The meeting further discussed for permission to certain pharmacies to open in turn to facilitate the patients.
Wile considering the among the Naga community, the meeting asked the Naga brothers and sisters to remain calm and to protect themselves from any unwanted propaganda of antisocial elements.
The meeting also decided to broad-base the committee through inclusion of senior citizens belonging to different communities in the state.
