The death toll in the June 18 firing on protesters has risen to 14 with one more succumbing to his injuries while MLAs N Bihari and K Tomba, who sustained severe burn injuries during the Assembly arson have been referred to a Delhi hospital even as indefinite curfew in the Greater Imphal area has been relaxed further.
Thingom Biren Singh (26) of Chingamakha Irom Leirak, who sustained bullet injuries died at 4 am at RIMS hospital today.
He was shot at both his thighs and heels.
He was operated on both the thighs on the day of the incident and another yesterday.
He died at 4 am.
Biren�s body was cremated near Kekrupat besides the bodies of the 13 other persons who were killed during the police firing.
MLAs Biren and Tomba, who suffered 70 and 60 per cent burn injuries when the frenzied mob set the Assembly Secretariat on fire on June 18 have been referred to Delhi�s Safdarjung Hospital, which has a Burn Unit.
The two MLAs are now being treated at the RIMS hospital.
According to today�s assessment, Bihari still has 55 pc burn injuries while Tomba has 22 pc burn injuries.
The two MLAs are likely to be shifted by a direct flight to the Delhi hospital on Sunday.
The indefinite curfew both in Imphal East and Imphal West was relaxed from 5 am to 9.30 am today while there were more relaxations in Thoubal in the afternoon.
The district administrations have announced that curfew will be relaxed from 5 am to 11 am in both the two city districts tomorrow (June 23).For Palace Compound the curfew has been relaxed from 12 noon to 4 pm to facilitate celebration of Rath Yatra tomorrow.
In Thoubal district day curfew has been lifted from tomorrow.
There were curfew relaxation in the district from 5 am to 11am and 4 to 6 pm in the afternoon today.
The night curfew in Churachandpur district is still on.
Nine curfew violators has been rounded up from the Greater Imphal area and sent to jail today.
Official sources said personnel of the AR picked up the nine curfew violators from different places of Imphal West district and handed over them to the police.
Imphal city police also picked up one person today for violating curfew, the sources said.
Meanwhile, Cease fire Victims Relief Committee, Samurou today took out a rally in Imphal West seeking aids for the victims of the June 18 firing.
The rally began from Samurou Bazar and covered Lilong, Ngangouthong etc, and managed to collect more than 10,000.A public meeting was also held at Samurou bazar.
The amount will be handed over to AMUCO, the organizers said.
Meanwhile, police denied an agency report that said that thousands of people have been shifted.
The report is totally false.
There is no such shifting either by any Government agency or voluntarily out of apprehension, police said.
Police also refuted the report that four persons were injured in police firing in Churachandpur yesterday.
No such incident took place, police said.
Delhi Manipur Bhavan also denied the report that student protesters were dispersed by the police at the Bhavan yesterday.
Delhi police came for VIPs security, it clarified.
A mysterious fire engulfed the Rath (Chariot) of the Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board at Konung Mamang to be used in tomorrow�s Rath Yatra ceremony late tonight.
Fire tenders rushed to the spot.
However, residents had already controlled the fire.
