The Editors Guild Manipur has expre- ssed concern over the incidents of harassment, detention and prevention of media persons from discharging their duties at different localities during the pro-ILPS stir spearheaded by JCILPS.
In a statement, EGM said that some bandh supporters harassed a scribe and a DTP operator of Pandam eveninger at Liwa Road, Chanam Pukhri Mapal yesterday.
After the incident was published on Sanaleibak and Pandam newspapers, an unknown man called up the office of Sanaleibak daily and asked the Editors of Sana-leibak and Pandam to come to their club by 1 pm today, the statement said.
EGM condemned harassments meted out to media persons by bandh supporters and summoning of Editors.
Saying that media persons are harassed at different pla-ces across the four valley dis- tricts while on duty or returning from work, the EGM urged the bandh supporters not to prevent the media persons from discharging their duties.
Stating that media houses need support staff in bringing out news bulletins and newspaper publications as well, EGM urged the bandh supporters to allow free movement of all the persons related to news gathering, production and distribution.
EGM also urged the organisations which call bandhs to instruct its supporters to give free passage to media persons.
The Editors' body also urged the bandh callers to provide an emergency number to the media to contact them in case of emergency.
