Even as the Civil Disobedience Movement announced by the United Committee, Manipur came into force today, the State administration has decided to curtail the curfew relaxation period in the two Imphal districts with effect from today.
Curfew which was earlier relaxed from 4 am till 9 pm during the past few days was relaxed only till 7 pm today.
UCM has earlier called fro a 24 hour general strike on July 22 against the cease fire extension.
The Governor has also ordered that all schools and education institution located within Imphal East and West should be closed tomorrow and July 21.The decision to slash the curfew relaxation period was taken during a high level meeting held at Raj Bhavan today.
The two Advisors to the Governor were present at eh meeting.
The meeting discussed in depth the prevailing law and order situation and it was decided to slash the curfew relaxation period to pre-empt any outbreak of unwanted incident.
The D M of both Imphal East and West today issued orders curtailing the curfew relaxation period till 7 pm today.
Curfew will be relaxed from 4 am to 6.30 pm of tomorrow till July 22.During the period of curfew relaxation prohibitory orders which forbids the assembly of five or more persons and also carrying of sticks, fire arms, stones and other lethal weapons will remain in force.
The high level meeting at the Raj Bhavan discussed in detail the inputs provided by the State police force.
The police report indicated the possibility of violence in the agitation taken up against the cease fire extension to Manipur.
The police report and the likely situation that may arise in the next few days prompted the administration to curtail the curfew relaxation period.
The officials also discussed the possibility of initiating dialogues and contact between the UCM and the UNC to dispel any misunderstanding that may accrue amongst the general population.
