Anti-AFSPA rally in Ukhrul

The District social organizations and NGOs of Ukhrul today jointly organized a silent protest rally demanding repeal of AFSPA (Armed forces special powers) act 1958 from the region.
Addressing the participants, president of Tangkhul youth Council (TMNL) said that AFPSA has purposely violated the human rights of the region thereby causing enough suffering in the guise of counter insurgency operations and maintenance of law and order.
Hundreds of Ukhrul denizens came out to register their opposition to the draconian law curtailing the fundamental right to the citizens of In- dian Republic of the region.
Recalling the bitter experiences of the community here, the TMNL president said wo-men like Rose and Luingamla had ended their lives after losing their chastity involuntarily to the security forces.
A memorandum jointly signed by the Presidents of Tangkhul frontal organizations like the Tangkhul Youth council (TMNL), Tangkhul Women League (TSL), All Hunphun Tang chairmen/ Secretaries Assn and the representative of Ukhrul NGO Network was submitted to the President of India through the DC.
Copy of the memo was also sent to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and Chief Minister O Ibobi.
