SSA collaborates with Shija on Smile Train

With an aim to ensure school education to all children, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, State Mission Authority collaborated with Shija Hospital for surgical correction of Cleft Lips/Palate children in the age group of 6-18 years, a project which Shija Hospital has been taking up since 2006 .
Addressing media persons in this regard at Shija Hospital today, Dr Palin, Managing Director of the Hospital said that the Smile Train is a project sponsored from USA.
Under this project, children with cleft lips and palate are operated free of cost.
Now with the collaboration of SSA, State Mission Authority, these children will be given transportation facilities and fooding as well during the course of the operation and treatment.
Ng Bhogendro, Additional State Project Director, SSA, State Mission Authority, Manipur, who was also present during the press conference, informed that eight children were operated today for the second batch.
In the first batch, 18 children have been provided fooding and transportation facilities which otherwise were not included in the Smile Train project.
He went on to inform that the role of SSA under this project is to identify children with cleft lips and palate and provide them transport facilities for coming to Shija hospital for getting operated and also to provide fooding facilities.
After being operated, these children would also be given opportunity to get themselves enrolled in schools which they were otherwise reluctant owing their cleft lip and palate.
